Effortless Makeup for the Summer

summer makeup blog post

It's that time of the year where the weather is getting warmer and you can't be arsed to do anything because the heat makes everything a chore. Don't get me wrong, I love doing my makeup ready for the day ahead. But when your bedroom is like a sauna in the warm weather, who really wants to sit in front of their mirror slapping on makeup? Not forgetting going about your day as you please and your makeup trying to melt off your face all day. So frustrating, right?

THE BASE
I usually stick with a BB cream or a tinted moisturiser as it's very lightweight and it's so quick and easy to apply. Unless I'm having a bad skin day, then I'll use a light foundation. Otherwise, I usually stick to a BB cream or a moisturiser.
If I have mega dark circles under my eyes, then I'll apply some concealer. I also apply a little bit of bronzer to give me a bit of colour and I keep the highlight quite subtle.

THE BROWS
I always tint my eyebrows so I don't have to do much to them anyway. But, I usually just fill in the ends of my brows with a brow pomade and just gel them in place. It doesn't take long to do but they still look good!

THE EYES
The majority of the time, I don't wear eyeshadow. Mainly because I have individual lashes and they get in the way when I apply it and take it off. However, if I go out for a day to the beach or for an evening bbq, I will apply eyeshadow but I keep it quite subtle and simple. I also stick to using two shades.

THE LIPS
Depending on how I'm feeling, I have a choice of a lipbalm, lipgloss or a lipstick. I tend to stay away from the matte lipsticks throughout the Summer as I feel like they get quite sticky throughout the day and it annoys me. I like having a lipblam in my bag for when my lips get a bit dry and need hydrating.

IT WON'T BUDGE
I use my setting spray to keep everything in place. I swear by my Urban Decay setting spray and I know full well that my makeup won't be dripping down my face by the end of the day.

How do you do your makeup for the Summer?

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Concentrate

the body shop drops of youth concentrate

It's shocking how crap I am at looking after my skin. I have been using drops of youth since late last year and it has been a saviour for my skin. I have fairly sensitive skin and the product actually irritated my skin the first couple of times I used it. However, I had read that a few other people had experienced this too, so I carried on using it for a little longer to see if my skin could really handle it or not. Luckily, my skin finally got used to the product and now I swear by this little gem.

Drops of youth concentrate helps tackle fine lines and early stages of ageing, (can never start too early!) 99% of the ingredients are from natural resources and it's also vegan. It's a gel/serum product and is quite thick so it doesn't run everywhere when you squeeze it from the pipette.

I apply around three drops every morning and evening and gently massage into my face and neck and then apply my moisturiser. I definitely noticed the difference in my skin within the first few days of using it. My pores were smaller, my skin tone had evened out and minimised any redness, firmed the skin, made it tighter and smoothed out fine lines under my eyes. It absorbs really quickly and easily into the skin which is great considering I apply my moisturiser straight after.

£26 for 30ml is such a reasonable price for this product, considering a little goes a long way!
Have you ever tried anything from the drops of youth range?

Collection Lasting Perfection Foundation Review

collection lasting perfection foundation review

After absolutely loving collections lasting perfection concealer, I decided to give their foundation a go. I had a bit of trouble in store choosing the right shade as I found they were all pretty much pink undertoned. I ended up choosing warm beige (3) as that seemed to blend pretty well into my neck.

I love the sleek matte design of this pump bottle. The back of the bottle claims that the foundation has breakthrough skin-lock technology which makes it last for up to 16 hours, gives flawless coverage, minimises imperfections, is oil free and has SPF 20 in it.

I actually like the consistency of this foundation, it's thick and so easy to blend. It gives amazing full coverage once applied and stays in place when I pop my setting powder on top. It is a very dewy foundation although, I usually prefer more of a matte product due to having oily skin. My oily skin does show through the foundation after around four hours which is kind of expected for a dewy drugstore foundation.

Also, one little touch of the face throughout the day, it transfers straight from the face onto your finger. God help if you have an itch. You also get that cakey look from this foundation during the day too. Whether that would be due to my skin type or whether its the foundation itself, I'm not sure.
I have noticed that it oxidises quite a bit which is annoying but it's not too bad and I can deal with it.
Overall, it would be a decent foundation if you have dry skin or if you needed some coverage for a few hours. I wouldn't recommend applying this if you have a long day ahead of you.
